A Pennsylvania police officer is being praised for his efforts to save the life of a gunshot victim earlier this year.
Prospect Park Police Officer David Voorhees was responding to a Jan. 10 shooting when he discovered a 17-year-old boy lying on the ground wounded, KYW-TV reports. The teen had been shot in the abdomen.
Quickly, Voorhees grabbed his trauma bag and began applying pressure to the wound with gauze for several minutes. At the same time, he had to contend with a crowd of onlookers until medics reached the scene.
“We did a tremendous job in saving this person’s life. We’re now looking to close it out and actually solve this crime,” said Police Chief David Madonna.
His fast reactions will be recognized by the mayor during a city council meeting Tuesday.
“I’m excited," Voorhees said. "It’s a very prestigious honor as a police officer to get a life save award."
